Are pastels paintings or drawings? While you will find my work under drawings in Etsy, pastels are the same pigments you find in artists' oil and acrylic paints. Pastels are pigment with the minimum binder to hold it together. Pastel painters may work on paper or other surfaces, and may use water or alcohol to create underpaintings or use acrylic or watercolors to create underpaintings. Most of my pastel work is a mix of hard and soft pastels on sanded UART paper, an acid-free, archival surface or other sanded, acid-free surfaces.
Colored pencil and graphite works are on acid-free, archival paper surfaces. Oils are on canvas.
